How To Avoid Obamacare Scams

FOX – WOFL

The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) has become a scam artist’s dream. The Federal Trade Commission and the National Consumers League say scammers are taking advantage of the program to trick us into divulging personal information and paying for fictitious insurance plans. Jean Ann Dorrell talked to FOX News Orlando about the 5 scams consumers should lookout for so they aren’t the next victim.

The National Consumers League has five ways on how you can better protect yourself from these scams.

  1. Get informed. Check out HealthCare.gov for all your official information.
  2. Don’t give out personal or money account information over the phone or email.
  3. Be careful of fake websites made to look like the official websites for health insurance exchange information.
  4. Don’t be afraid to ask for credentials of the people who offer to help you with your health insurance options.
  5. There are a number of consumer groups where you can report fraud and get help like The Better Business Bureau and The National Consumers League.
